If you like pickles, this is one event you don’t want to miss! It’s a festival called “Slow Food Nation” in San Francisco (where else?) on August 29 to September 1. According to the SFN website, the festival “is dedicated to creating a framework for deeper environmental connection to our food and aims to inspire and empower Americans to build a food system that is sustainable, healthy and delicious.” The festival is organized by members of Slow Food, “a non-profit, eco-gastronomic organization that was founded in 1989 to counteract the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.”

The festival features food growers, chefs, and intellectuals from around the country. There will be speakers, field trips to farms, tasting panels, and best of all… a taste pavilion with 15 different areas dedicated to such delicious topics as ice cream, tea, native foods, and pickles and chutney!!! The thought of the taste pavilion alone was enough to motivate me to immediately purchase a ticket to SF.

If you want to find me over labor day weekend, just look in the honey and preserves booth at the taste pavilion…
